Short Presentations for Veterinary Clinics

We meet the growing need for education about dog behavior from a scientific yet accessible perspective. Check out our short local presentations for veterinary clinics or dog clubs. Choose from the most popular topics listed here or ask about something you need for your specific audience.

These 30 to 40 minute lunch presentations prepare your staff to help with the questions they inevitably get about behavior while the clients are waiting to see the veterinarian.

Talking to Dog Owners about Behavior Issues:

Support the professionalism of the clinic staff by preparing them to answer client questions about behavior the right way.

Often the front desk personnel and the veterinary assistants and techs are confronted with questions and comments about dog and puppy behavior that never reach the veterinarian. Sometimes clients have serious questions to the veterinarian as well about troublesome behavior problems. This presentation guides personnel through the steps of how to very quickly find out more the nature and gravity of the clients’ remarks about behavior and how to direct them appropriately to get the specific help they need.

Practical Solutions to Socializing Pups while Protecting Them from Disease Veterinarians know how important it is to protect puppies from exposure to deadly contagions during the time their immune systems cannot protect them. Trainers and behaviorists know of the critical importance of early socialization greatly prior to 4 months of age. This system will end that conflict once and for all with safe socialization techniques all owners can use.

Common Aggression Issues in Companion Dogs and How to Avoid Them

Most dogs are not aggressive by nature but some common management and handling mistakes can bring out undesirable behaviors from snapping to lunging to biting either dogs or people. A common problem is dogs who are aggressive on leash but not off leash or dogs who are reactive to strangers at the door or on the street. Get answers with this presentation. Learn some of the specific triggers that almost assure some level of anxiety and/or defensive aggression.

Puppy Enrichment and Early Training

The newest evidence about puppy development points out that the key time for influencing the developing brain and personality of the puppy begins at about 4 weeks, much earlier than we had previously thought. This talk offers systems for enrichment opportunities for very young pups and suggestions for safe socialization with people at this young age. Make sure you are giving your pups the best chance to grow up to be well adjusted, resilient dogs.

True Genetic Differences in Behavior between Breeds

Modern research in ethology (the biology of behavior) has identified significant differences in behavior and physiology of different breeds developed originally for different functions in their role of workmates to humans. This talk identifies some of the more significant differences and how they affect modern owners and breeders.
