Problem Behavior Assessment and Modification

(Examples of such problems are: aggressive displays while on leash; aggressive displays in the home towards either family or guests; aggressive displays towards other animals; predatory behavior; separation distress; resource guarding; shyness/fearfulness beyond what’s sensible; noise phobias (sometimes require a veterinarian); destructiveness; low impulse control; failure to relax; and other problems. )

As a certified dog behavior consultant through the Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants, I am qualified to help you with any behavior problems that are not caused by physical problems (for which I can refer you to a board certified veterinary behaviorist).

The consulting process is this: First we have an initial phone contact of about 15 minutes; then you fill out a behavior history form and pay a deposit; next we meet in person (or by phone or skype if you are distant)

The initial consultation follows receipt of a comprehensive behavior history questionnaire. The consultation will take an hour and a half to two hours. Where it is conducted depends upon the problem and the distances involved. When possible I like to see the dog where the problem occurs but there are exceptions.

The result of the consultation will be a plan of action to change the dog’s behavior. This may include lifestyle/management changes; behavior modification procedures (like desensitization; counter conditioning; DRI and others); training; enrichment activities to improve the dog’s self-confidence; body work for de-stressing; and T Touch like activities. This plan may also include referral to your veterinarian or a certified behavior vet for diagnosis of health and physiology related problems.

After the initial consultation and plan, you may want to go on to work through the suggested program with us. How long it will take varies with each case, but we strive to make it as efficient and cost effective as possible.
